Apples

Last week we spent time working on apples. Many of our center activities were based around apples:
We made an apple themed class book using our pictures:
We tasted red, yellow and green apples and voted on our favorites:
Last, but not least we had an apple tasting day and had apple juice, apple sauce and Apple Jacks:
The next two weeks we are working on pumpkins. Stay tuned!

Back to School Night

Thank you so much to the parents that made it out to Back to School Night. For those of you that were unable to make it - I sent home the handouts for you in your child's BEE Book. A few of the things that we went over were the contents of the BEE Books, our behavior system, and the basics of the Kindergarten curriculum. If you have any questions about any of these things please don't hesitate to send me a note or email with your questions. If you haven't sent in a change of clothes with your child please do so. They will be stored in the Nurse's Office in case of an accident or a spill. Here is a slideshow with a few pictures from our first week at school:

We're off and running!

We made it through the first 2 days of school! It's been great meeting my new group of kindergartners - I know we're going to have a fantastic year! Here are my new kiddos on the first day:

The first few days are always such a whirlwind and go by so fast. On our first day we read the story First Day Jitters about a teacher who is nervous for the first day of school. Afterwards we made Jitter Juice to help us get over any jitters that we had. Here are a few pictures of a few of the students enjoying their treat:

On Friday we were led on a scavenger hunt around the school by Pete the Cat. Pete is a storybook character that usually becomes a favorite of many on my students. In one of Pete's stories he steps in a big pile of strawberries and they turn his white shoes red, so it was only natural that Pete left us a treat of strawberries and whipped cream at the end of our scavenger hunt. Here are a few more pictures:

We're off to a great start! I hope to see you all at Back to School Night on Thursday, September 13th!

School Supplies

Parents:
I am listing the class supplies that I am requesting for this year.  Please bring the 1" binder with you to orientation so I can have it filled and ready prior to the first day of school.  You can bring the rest of the supplies to orientation if you'd like as well.  Otherwise I ask that you send them in within the first 2 weeks of school.  If you are unable to provide the supplies for your child please contact me and we can make other arrangements.
  • 1" view binder (the type that allows you to slip a piece of paper into the front cover) See an example
  • 4 boxes of Crayola 24 count crayons
  • 4 fat Elmers glue sticks
  • 1 box of Crayola markers (fat or thin) - these will be used by the whole class in our Art Center
  • 1 pack of either antibacterial wipes or baby wipes
  • A change of clothes labelled with your child's name (these will be kept in the Nurse's Office to be used in case of an accident or spill)
